CEiMB - Dark Chocolate Mousse

This week's Craving Ellie in My Belly recipe was chosen by Laura at Edible Ventures. It was a recipe for which you really have to suspend disbelief--tofu as a base for chocolate mousse? No eggs? No heavy cream? Has Ellie gone mad??

But this is your healthy dream dessert. I used 70% chocolate and unsweetened cocoa. I substituted brewed coffee for the brandy. The mousse took 5 minutes to make: it has to be the fastest low-fat, most impressive healthy dessert ever. I forgot to stir the sugar into the melted chocolate before combining it with the blended tofu, but it was just fine added to the blender. I added 1 tablespoon of 1% milk to help the blender do its job because my blender is wimpy.

I skipped the whipped cream topping only because we don't like whipped cream. It doesn't need the whipped cream...this is a truly decadent healthy dessert without it. Deeply chocolate, it will satisfy your craving without blowing your diet. Sweet!

If you'd like to check out how the other CEiMB members fared with this one, you'll find links to their blogs here. And you'll find the recipe here.

No way?? Tofu?? I would have never guessed that. I've made an eggless choc pudding before (http://hanaaskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/03/stovetop-double-chocolate-pudding.html) but TOFU?? It looks chocolatey and delicious. Maybe I'll just have to try it :o)

This looks delicious, exactly like I would expect a Chocolate Mousse to look. And healthier is so good.

I would have been skeptical of the tofu, but it sounds like this was a huge success! Great job. If I liked mousse I'd be making this tomorrow :)

Tofu? Seriously? But hey, don't knock it till you try it, right?

Oh, perfect! I'm in need of some tasty, non-diet-busting recipes right about now.

Yours looks so smooth!

This looks so luscious creamy. I didn't make it because of the Tofu. I could not think of what I could substitute.

Coffee! What a fabulous idea! I used rum because I didn't have brandy, but I think coffee would have been even better. Looks great.

OK, I skipped this week's CEIMB because I was weirded out by the tofu but you are convincing me to give it a try. Sounds great.

I didn't end up making chocolate mousse for SMS; I love the idea of a healthier one. I would have to lie to Josh about it containing tofu, though.

I'm not a tofu eater, but you make this sound too good not to try.

Guys found out this had tofu in it and nixed the whole idea, but after reading everyone's comments on it, I think I will try to sneak it in sometime when they have forgotten all about the tofu part. Yours looks luscious and lovely!
