TWD - Applesauce Spice Bars

I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is one sentence blogging week is over. So, while I'll make an effort not to be as blabby as usual, no promises.

The good news is my back is starting to feel better. I can't thank all of you who commented enough. I can't do marathons sessions in the kitchen yet but I can put together an easy recipe...like these applesauce spice bars.

And these babies are EASY. They're made from ingredients most of us have in our pantry. They smell divine while they bake. There's fruit in them so they're healthy. That's the grand slam of baking, if you ask me. I doubled the glaze and waited to apply it until the bars and the glaze had cooled. I sliced the bars before glazing. Don't do that. The glaze runs between the slices and then it looks skimpy on top. And you won't want to waste a drop of this delicious glaze. Although the bars were great without the glaze (check out Pamela's poem here), they were amazing with it.

This pick came to us from Karen of Something Sweet by Karen, and it was a hit. Thanks, Karen! If you'd like the recipe, she'll have it for you. Better yet, check out the book we're baking from, Baking From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan.

Im glad your back is feeling better. Nothing worse then a back ache. I had that in June when I pulled my calf muscle I threw my back out from limping from my leg...ahhh it was so frustrating. Well on to the bars..great looking and verfy yummy! Im glad you liked them. Im thinking these will be a great recipe for the fall!

Welcome back to baking. I'm sad to report that I have no applesauce.

Nothing wrong with that glaze oozing between the pieces! Yum. Your bars look so delicious posed that way with the little skirt of parchment around them.

Happy recovery! These bars were tasty. Yours look so moist. I think the glaze drizzling over the sides looks even better!

Those look lethally delicious. Short and sweet, like the recipe was easy. Definitely a keeper - w/ or w/out the glaze.

Ah ha, I can leave a comment now (computer was cranky earlier). Your bars look delish - I am envious of your lovely flowing glaze, especially as I am a caramel fiend.

I was really missing one-sentence week tonight, since I didn't get a chance to write my post until 10 PM. Your bars look fantastic and I'm glad you're feeling better.

SO glad you're feeling better! I miss one sentence blogging, too. It's much easier to motivate when it's just a sentence, isn't it?
The bars look absolutely delicious.

I'm glad your back is feeling better! It's miserable to not be able to be in the kitchen :)

I loved these bars but had to give half the batch to my neighbor or I would have eaten them ALL!

Awww, shucks!! You mentioned my poem? How sweet are you? :o) As you know, I didn't get to the glaze, but came apple season here, I will make these again and give that glaze a try. Later, gator.

I'm glad your back is starting to feel better! Love that you said "grand slam of baking" - never thought of it like that, but I totally agree! These were so good I had to give most of them away so I wouldn't eat them all :) Your bars look awesome!

So glad to hear your back is feeling better!
I loved this recipe too - easy and delicious! I like how you sliced it before the glaze, that way the glaze gets all over every piece! =)
(Thanks for sharing your work experience with me - it's very encouraging and I really appreciate it!)
