Dressy Chocolate Loaf Cake

My dear blogging buddy Amy of Amy Ruth Bakes selected the Dressy Chocolate Loaf Cake for this week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe. If you know me at all, you know that I love chocolate. Deep, dark chocolate. I'm not a fan of milk chocolate, and not even so much for semi-sweet. This loaf cake, with its punch of cocoa fit nicely into the deep, dark realm that I love so much.

This was another Tuesdays with Dorie selection I made before I went on vacation, and I had serendipitously picked up a container of sour cream at the market, vaguely thinking I needed it for something. Also serendipitously, I had two sticks of butter out on the counter, so I was ready to go when the chocolate urge struck.

Dorie's recipe calls for a jam syrup to fill the split cake, but I didn't have the right jam and didn't want to buy any, so I used some ganache from the freezer to both fill and frost the cake. This made it an even easier cake to knock out on a weeknight, and the double hit of chocolate was appreciated by my co-workers.

Thanks, Amy, for a super pick! If you'd like the recipe, Amy has it for you here.

You had better luck with this one than I did. But it was soooo good wasn't it? Hope you had a fun vacation.

It was a nice dense chocolatey cake. And I like the 'head'. Chocolate frosting between the layers would definitely work for me.

Wow, that looks dark and chocolatey! Love the little lady accompanying it. You are amazing to get things done before vacation, on vacation, when you return from vacation.

Yep, we are two peas in a pod. I'm in the same taste buds category. So glad you and your subconscious were on the same page. LOL. Thanks, Leslie, for fitting it in and baking along with me. I love the ganache variation and can't wait to try that next. I think the recipe is super easy to put together, quick, fast and in a hurry.

Don't you just love it when the stars seem to align and you magically have the necessary ingredients in the kitchen? It's so great. Your chocolate cake looks wonderful, and I think that the ganache between the layers sounds just perfect.

It looks delicious, especially with double the chocolate.

I want that head statue you have sitting behind the cake!

Cool photo! I wasn't sure about the jam, but I liked it. However, using chocolate between the layers is a better idea!

Wow. You were obviously meant to make this cake. =) I enjoyed the ganache on my cake, too, but I really like the jam in the middle, too.

I almost put ganache in the filling too -it needed something besides my thin layer of jam! Wonderful combo - double chocolate!

That looks delicious, Leslie! Very chocolaty indeed. Not sure if it's the lighting or the cocoa you used, but your cake looks darker than others I've seen, so it must be really chocolaty. Great idea to pair it with ganache. Yum!

Good idea with the chocolate ganache. I skipped this one for now.
